Brian graduated from the University of Malta with a BA (Hons) degree in Accountancy in 1988. In 1992, he started his own practice as a sole practitioner gradually developing into a medium sized firm. Brian’s visionary capabilities have helped shape the organisation and nurture it into the competitive and leading organisation it is today. His drive and business perception led him to join the Nexia International network in 2007 to enable the organisation expand its services internationally. This move has served the firm well and as a result, it has experienced marked growth both on the local front as well as globally where it has also won international awards. Brian’s strengths lie in his acumen to grasp complex business situations or problem areas and effectively devise salvage strategies that bear tangible results. He is recognised for his ability to take decisions timely and effectively enabling clients achieve growth in a profitable manner. Core to this success are also his reputable time management skills and competitive yet professional respecting approach whilst retaining a people friendly character. As the firm’s managing partner, Brian is responsible for the firm's strategy and business development, is an audit and advisory partner and a director on all the firm's entities. He has regularly served as an advisor to various public and private entities and presently leads a number of assignments assisting clients to obtain financing and growing their businesses both locally and internationally. He is a fellow of the Malta Institute of Accountants.

Manuel Castagna

Manuel joined Nexia BT in 2001. He was admitted to partnership in 2006, and is the firm’s main audit partner, while also serving as compliance officer and human resources partner. Manuel has close to twenty years’ experience in financial services, mainly in audit and assurance. Manuel graduated with honours in Accountancy from the University of Malta in 1996. He trained with Grant Thornton, and during his five-year stay, he also gained international experience by being seconded with the firm’s Oxford office. He also briefly worked with a local bank and in the corporate services department of a local law firm. As Nexia BT’s audit partner, Manuel heads an audit team of around twenty people. He is also responsible for the firm’s Quality Assurance and Risk Management. Manuel is a fellow of the Malta Institute of Accountants, and sits on the Institute’s Small & Medium Sized Practices Advisory Committee.

Karl Cini

Karl is a certified public accountant and holds a diploma in taxation. He graduated from the University of Malta with an honours degree in Accountancy in 1998. Until 2001 he was employed locally with an international audit firm and during this time he was seconded to their London office on a number of occasions where he was in charge of various prominent audit and accountancy engagements. Upon joining Nexia BT as a manager he was involved in a number of accountancy projects, due diligence exercises and valuations. Karl was made partner of the firm in 2006 and in the same year was entrusted with negotiating the firm’s admission into the Nexia International network. He has since managed the firm’s Tax and International Client Services Department. In this position, Karl provides a comprehensive service to international clients with a specific focus on corporate services and tax advisory. He frequently delivers presentations on various topics at Nexia International conferences, meetings and other seminars. Karl’s extensive knowledge of Malta’s tax system and structures together with his in-depth experience of residence and citizenship programmes have been catalysts for the firm’s rapid development in this area. His meticulous approach to detail coupled with an innate proficiency in identifying opportunities for tax efficiency have been key in establishing Nexia BT’s reputation as an specialist sought by people seeking a Malta Citizenship or wishing to relocate to Malta. As a strong problem solver, Karl’s main competency lies in providing the best cost effective alternatives available built around tax and residence programme friendly configurations. Karl is a fellow of the Malta Institute of Accountants and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and a member of the Institute of Financial Services Practitioners and the Malta Institute of Taxation. He is also an accredited person/agent under the Regulation of The Individual Investor Programme (IIP) granted by Identity Malta.

Anita Aloisio

Nexia BT advisory partner, Anita is a corporate finance and restructuring specialist. Starting her career in auditing in a Big Four firm 20 years ago, she has, along the years, managed a number of corporate restructuring projects for both the public and private sectors. Anita possesses considerable experience in funding, finance and administration of EU projects and public procurement of a large scale organisations. As a former director of finance for the University of Malta for three years she managed a funding portfolio of €55 million and has direct experience in the tertiary education sector. She has also had a stint in the health sector where she held the position of Financial Controller of a private hospital. For a number of years, Anita specialised in building cost models for the communications industry. Her work was instrumental in harmonising interconnection rates in Malta with those of the EU. In 2005, she led the project of building a Next Generation Network (NGN) bottom up cost model – a first in Europe. As the partner responsible for the advisory services arm of Nexia BT, Anita assists a wide range of clients in setting up corporate governance structures and in dealing with risk management issues; developing business plans and providing advice and assistance during mergers and acquisitions. In 2014, Anita won the prestigious MSV Life Top Entrepreneur of the Year Award and was also declared Corporate Financier of the Year Award. Perhaps her biggest achievement to date, rests with the award to Nexia BT of the International Advisory firm of the Year title in the single firm category by the International Accounting Bulletin (IAB) for 2015, the first time such an award was bestowed on a Maltese organisation. Anita is a fellow of the Malta Institute of Accountants and holds an executive masters, degree in business administration from the ENPC in Paris and the University of Edinburgh Business School. She also lectures at the University of Malta. As a founding member of Women Directors in Malta, a non-profit organisation set up in 2015, Anita plays an active role in encouraging women to hold positions on boards.
